10 Good Sci-Fi movies to watch on Valentine’s Day

Watch Science fiction movies on Valentine’s Day? Wait! Don’t dismiss it yet.

There are romantic sci-fi movies you can watch and they are not as bad as you may think. Watch the movie with your partner, with a friend, or alone (whichever situation you’re in). You have science fiction movies that clearly have romance as the main dramatic element of the story but there are also science fiction movies with different sub-genres combined like action, adventure, fantasy, thrillers, etc. Interested yet?

Think about it, wouldn’t it be great if everyone is able to enjoy the movie? I was told romantic movies like the Notebook can be torturous for some people to watch. Why? I don’t know. But if there is a way where both parties are left happy why not try it?

Here are some good sci-fi movies to choose from:

1. The Adjustment Bureau (2011)

 2. WALL-E (2008)

It’s true the main characters in this movie are robots and it’s a Pixar Movie but don’t reject it yet. 3. The Fifth Element (1997)

6. Edward Scissorhands (1990)

A curious woman selling beauty products finds a very unusual boy in a very old Gothic mansion and decide to bring him to her home.  The boy befriend’s the woman’s daughter but not everyone is happy with this friendship. Some people in the neighborhood are afraid of this boy. A story about the beautiful things in life, the discovery of the human connection, taking responsibility of our actions and discovery of love.

7. The Fountain (2006)

A doctor trying to find a cure for his sick wife and doing his best to support her during this difficult time. The movie has elements of action, drama, and fantasy. A story about unconditional love and the difficult process of handling the sickness of a beloved person.

8. Her (2013)

In a futuristic world where wireless earpieces appear to be the only product on the market and appearing as talking to yourself is completely normal a relationship between a man and a artificial intelligent operating system starts. A story about realizing the value of relationships and human connection.

9. Equals (2015)

The characters in the movie are living in a futuristic facility where everything is monitored and they have the following specific rules. The concept of having a romantic relationship is unknown. There are no errors and no emotions. Everyone seems perfect. That is until someone breaks the rules. 10. Perfect Sense (2011)

  1. Interesting article. I guess that within SciFi, you can have sub genres. I don’t think that I would be putting on one of your recommendations unfortunately next week. I don’t want to explain things to my lover.

    1. Hi Francis,

I appreciate you taking time to read my post. It’s a pity to hear but keep in mind that there is s first time for everything in life:)

  2. Wow, thanks Dira for this great list, I still remember watching Wall-E for the first time although it’s child movie it left a sentimental feeling behind. Now the only thing I need is a girlfriend and I can start this valentine marathon haha 😉

  3. Thank you Dira for this wonderful list. I have seen 3 of the 10 (Scissorhands, Wall-E, and Eternal Sunshine) and absolutely adore all three. This leads me to believe we have similar taste in movies, and I will have to give the others a try!

Thanks for sharing this great recommendations!!

    Chris

  4. These are some amazing movies you have mentioned in this article! My favorite would probably have to be the “lake house”. Although Edward Scissorhands looks like an interesting movie. I’ve never seen it before, but the trailer looks awesome. Thanks for this post, I’ll definitely be back for more.

    Kind regards,
    Brandon

    1. Thanks for stopping by Brandon! Indeed Edward Scissorhands is an interesting movie. It’s a very old gem of sci fi. Check it out when you have a chance.

  5. These are some really beautiful movies. I have seen 4 of them, but the other six are completely new to me and I would be very curious to see “The Fountain” because I just love Hugh Jackman! 🙂 When it comes to genres I don’t have a favourite one. If a movie is inspiring, moving and engaging, then chances are I’ll like it a lot. Thank you so much, Dira, for sharing this wonderful list!

  6. I loved your recommendations and the trailers to accompany! I want to watch the Lake House again. Great movie. What a diverse and interesting list you put together. Look forward to more of your posts!

  7. Those are great ideas! When I first read your Header you grabbed my attention to see what you had in mind. You named several that I’ve seen and some I have not, and all of them sound interesting! Great idea to try to please everyone.

  8. Hey Dira,

I have watched most of the moves you describe. I was very fascinated by “Her”. I watched it with my girlfriend and we both liked it.
    What is your personal favorite?

    1. Hi Asen,
It’s so great you’re visiting again.
Yes that is a good movie.
It’s hard to pic just one so I’ll give you my top 3:
      1. The Adjustment Bureau: I have to admit that I was a little biased to put it on number one (note: I did make a small survey to put this list together so it’s not only me). I have watched this movie so many times (love the scene when they first meet). It’s on my shelf ready to be watched again.
      2. The Lake House: more than the story I like to watch Keanu and Sandra even though they don’t have much scenes together in the movie. Maybe it’s because I remembered them from their Movie ” Speed”.
      3. Wall-E: I know it’s an animated movie but it makes me smile every time I see it.
I appreciate you taking time to read my posts. Thanks.
